Bluejays Drop Three Against Coyotes

Coming off a dominant 10-0 win over Bethany College, Bluejay Baseball was back on the road to take on the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes. The Bluejays and the Coyotes matchup boasted the top two teams in the conference, with the Bluejays entering the weekend with a 5-0 conference record and the Coyotes with a 4-1 conference record. 

 

Friday Game 1: Tabor 2, KWU 5 (9 Innings)

 

KWU got on the board first in the bottom of the 1st. Tabor took the lead momentarily in the top of the 4th when they scored two runs, but the Coyotes immediately tied things back up in the bottom of the 4th. The Bluejays' bats then went cold for the remainder of the game, and the Coyotes scored two more in the 5th and one in the 6th. Final score was 2-5.

 

Tabor's two runs in the 4th came off a Brayden Whitchurch (SR/Wichita, Kan.) home run that scored Micah Dvorak (SO/Garden City, Kan.) as well. Cody Moore (SO/Midlothian, Texas), Brady Cardozo (SO/Modesto, Calif.), and Drake Girard (SR/Midlothian, Texas) all added hits.

 

Sunday Game 2: Tabor 6, KWU 8 (9 Innings)

 

Following a slow start, the Bluejays found themselves down 1-5 after six innings. Tabor had a late surge to finish the game, scoring two in the 7th and three more in the 9th, but the Coyotes prevailed, winning 6-8.

 

Sergio Gutierrez (JR/Oxnard, Calif.) scored the first run for the Bluejays in the top of the 5th, when he grounded out yet scored Brady Cardozo. Gutierrez continued to try to keep the game competitive when he hit a two run double, scoring Cardozo and Justin Ricketts (JR/Statesboro, Ga.). The last few runs of the game came in the final inning when Micah Dvorak hit a three run double that scored Tyler Mata-Lloyd (JR/Fort Collins, Colo.), Gutierrez and Ricketts.

 

Sunday Game 3: Tabor 1, KWU 3 (7 Innings)

 

The final game of the 3 game series was a low scoring one, with the Bluejays scoring their only run in the top of the 2nd. The Coyotes scored one run in the 2nd, 3rd and 5th to finalize the sweep. Final score was 1-3. 

 

The Bluejays lone run came off a Garrick Levesque (SO/Littleton, Colo.) single that scored Miguel Ramos (JR/Corpus Christi, Texas). Two of KWU's runs came off homeruns.
