The ribbon cutting for the Central Kansas Entrepreneurship Center (CKEC) at Tabor College is set for Friday, Jan. 13. The day’s festivities will open with an Entrepreneurship Fair at 2 p.m., and will be followed by a program at 3, and culminate with the ribbon cutting at 3:30.
The first two events will be held inside the Shari Flaming Center for the Arts, and the ribbon cutting will be held at the home of the CKEC, located on the corner of D and Lincoln streets.
“We look forward to celebrating what the Central Kansas Entrepreneurship Center at Tabor College has done and will do for local business development,” President David Janzen, Ph.D., said. “This ribbon cutting will help commemorate the start and growth of businesses that serve their local community.”
Students and local business owners will be highlighted at the Entrepreneurship Fair in the Regier Atrium. The public is invited to visit exhibitor tables, give feedback and hear about their stories, products, and services. Parking is available north of the SFCFA.
Dr. Janzen will lead the program, sharing the vision of the CKEC while acknowledging the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the City of Hillsboro for their funds and partnerships.
The ribbon cutting will follow, and tours of the facility will be available after the event.
Started in August 2022, the CKEC began in agreement with a $90,000 grant from the USDA. The funds, and a memorandum of understanding with the City of Hillsboro, began Tabor’s push for on-campus and local economic development services.
This project will include guidance on entrepreneurship pipelines from ideation through pitch development and incubation, instruction on program management, and business consulting services for start-ups and regional small businesses. The project also seeks to develop and execute innovation and design-thinking workshops and entrepreneurship speaking series while providing opportunities for entrepreneurial mentorship with Tabor faculty and staff.
The USDA is an equal opportunity provider, employer, and lender.
