‘Tis the season for holiday scams

‘Tis the season for holiday scams

Ready for last-minute holiday scam tips?

Making that last dash to get ready for the holidays? So are fraudsters. They know it’s even easier to trick us now as we’re rushed and distracted.

Check out these tips to help protect your money, identity and holiday cheer.

Common holiday scam tips

Package delivery scams: Posing as UPS, FedEx and the U.S. Postal Service, scammers send fake package delivery payment messages riddled with malware (to steal your personal info). Tip: Track deliveries only via an organization’s official site.

Charity scams: Fraudster calls and fake messages ask for holiday donations and personal information. Tip: Confirm a charity is legit at CharityNavigator.org or CharityWatch.org and only donate via a charity’s official site.

Fake gift sites: If a site looks legit but has unbelievably low prices on the season’s hottest gifts, beware. Chances are the only thing your payment will get you is a stolen identity – ouch. Tip: Only buy from reputable sites and don’t trust those missing the “s” after http.

Enjoy the season safely
