The American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) holds event to focus on legislative issues.

Over the course of two days (July 20-22, 2022), Megan Chambers, Research Analyst II for Butler Community College’s Institutional Research Department, took part in AACRAO’s annual Congressional Hill Day to advance the association’s legislative priorities.

Hill Day connects members directly to Congressional aides to have conversations about higher education perspectives, policy, and to ensure that decision-makers are aware of issues relevant to members who reside in their districts and states. Chambers was one of 32 AACRAO Advocates to meet with Congressional aids and share their practitioner perspective on how federal policy impacts those that work in the higher education community. This year’s discussions focused on AACRAO’s top legislative priorities, including supporting the Reverse Transfer Efficiency Act, urging the doubling of the maximum Pell Grant award, advocating for updates to FERPA, and protecting Dreamers and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) recipients.

Chambers is passionate about higher education and helping students achieve the American dream. Hill Day provides a direct opportunity for participants to become more civically involved with issues that affect their professional career and to help shape public policies and programs that recognize and support higher education as a positive force in ensuring educational success.

The American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) is a non-profit, voluntary, professional association of more than 11,000 higher education professionals who represent approximately 2,600 institutions in more than 40 countries. AACRAO serves as a leading voice in higher education and envisions a community centered on learner success driven by professional excellence and leadership in enrollment and academic services.

AACRAO is grateful to have members like Megan Chambers who are passionate about their work and take the extra step to advocate on behalf of all higher education professions. To learn more about AACRAO’s Congressional Hill Day and the policy issues addressed, visit www.aacrao.org/HillDay2022
